Hello, I wanted to comment on your deletion of my paragraph regarding same-sex marriage in Alberta from the Family Day article. Do you see an acceptable way where some mention of the current status of same-sex marriage in Alberta could be acknowledged in the article? My intent is not to promote same-sex marriage, but to illustrate a connection between this holiday and the Government of Alberta's policies that promote the exclusively heterosexual definition of marriage. Alberta is the only province with a "Family Day", and I would suspect that they offer little to no recognition of same-sex families in their Family Day programs. I welcome your comments, Kurieeto 09:28, Apr 14, 2005 (UTC)
- The only way I could see it being relevant is if Family Day has been prominently used in rhetoric by either side of the debate in Alberta. Back when I lived in Alberta, same-sex marriage wasn't a prominent issue, and Family Day was generally treated as just another day off, with no particular celebrations of the family scheduled. Now that it is an issue, I've never heard of the rhetoric on either side stepping up during Family Day. Silly Dan 12:11, 2005 Apr 14 (UTC)

[edit]Re list of peaks by prominence, thank you for spotting that Mulhacen is in Spain. It is certainly given in Spain in the reference data. Viewfinder 04:43, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

- "A phobia (from the Greek φόβος "fear"), is a strong, persistent fear of situations, objects, activities, or persons"
phobia mens fear not hatred, duhhhhh —Preceding unsigned comment added by Swainstonation (talk • contribs)
- The word homophobia means irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals. It can also mean hatred of and disparagement of homosexual people, their lifestyle, their sexual behavior, or culture, and is generally used to assert bigotry. Opposition to same-sex activism on religious, moral, or political grounds is also generally referred to as "homophobic". —Silly Dan (talk) 23:23, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Neighbourhood
[edit]You edited "neighborhood" to "neighbourhood" in the Edmonton article. It has been established on Wikipedia for some time that, because of the international scope of this endeavor, both British and American spellings are equally valid, and that the only important consideration is, that within an article, there be consistency of spelling. It was not necessary for you to make this change. Denni ☯ 23:41, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- I retract my comment - "neighbourhood" is spelled with a "u" throughout this article; this means your change was appropriate. Denni ☯ 23:46, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'd have made the change, or at least suggested changing it to -our even if the -or spelling had been used throughout, based on my understanding of Wikipedia:Manual of Style#National varieties of English. —Silly Dan (talk) 01:36, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
re:So where do I report impersonations, then?
[edit]Although I wasn't referring to you in particular when I said "others incorrectly listed," I have taken into consideration your concerns with the users in question. They are now blocked. My initial concern was that you didn't follow the instructions listed on the WP:AIV page. Thanks for pointing it out though --Jay(Reply) 14:33, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Replied on your talk page. Thanks again. —Silly Dan (talk) 14:35, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
More impersonators
[edit]Thanks, Dan. And remember. If they've spelled "Ellipsis" correctly, then it's not me. ....(Complain)(Let us to it pell-mell) 21:32, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Edmonton meetup
[edit]Hello - I'm contacting you with this message because you have listed yourself in Category:Wikipedians in Edmonton - if you are not actually in Edmonton, I apologize for bothering you; unfortunately, the sort of spamming I'm doing isn't conducive to reading everybody's userpages thoroughly. I am investigating the possibility of creating a Wikipedia meetup in Edmonton for sometime during the spring or summer of 2008. If you're interested, please visit Wikipedia:Meetup/Edmonton, add yourself to the list of interested editors, and watchlist the page. Cheers, Sarcasticidealist (talk) 23:56, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
- That category really should be "Wikipedians from Edmonton": I don't live there anymore. 8) —Silly Dan (talk) 01:35, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Cheers for that, totally my screw-up, I completely forgot to remove the AfD notice from the article page after linking the closed discussion from the talk page. Oops! --Stormie (talk) 03:49, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Lone Gunmen Revert?
[edit]I'm wondering why you reverted back to the original sub heading on "9/11 Foreshadowing." I've posted my reasons for changing it and am wondering on what point you disagree. It's a pretty minor article but I don't abide 9/11 conspiracies being forwarded as fact on wikipedia, regardless of an article's significance. --CptBuck (talk) 03:17, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- That wasn't my intention: I certainly don't subscribe to any of those theories either. I made the change because "9/11 Conspiracy Theory Foreshadowing" seemed to me as though it could be interpreted as "Foreshadowing of the inside job which was really behind 9/11." "9/11 Foreshadowing" seemed to me more like a neutral way of describing the coincidence, but I'll admit it lost your added detail about the way the TLG plot shared details with the "inside job" type of 9/11 conspiracy theory. The intention behind the title is a lot clearer with the change you made to the first sentence of the section, though I wonder if the section title should include the term "coincidence" rather than "foreshadowing," since no one seriously thinks Chris Carter had any foreknowledge. I've posted on the article talk page as well. —Silly Dan (talk) 22:18, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
- * I agree with the changes you've made, your title is more concise while still conveying what I intended. Thank You. --CptBuck (talk) 07:00, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
